Why hiring a “Professional” Organiser can help you achieve your goals.
What is a Professional Organiser and what do they do? How could hiring one improve your wellbeing and create headspace to enable you to achieve your life and career goals?
I’m sure by now most people have heard of Marie Kondo or maybe you have watched TV shows ‘The Home Edit’, and the ‘Minimalists’. But what is all the fuss about and what does a “Professional” Organiser do? Are they just glorified cleaners?
How can decluttering and changing our behaviours around our stuff actually change our lives and enable us to achieve our goals?

What are the benefits of using a Professional Organiser?
The benefits will be different for each individual, some of the key ones are…
-
Sharing the emotional burden: Most people struggle to get rid of things due to the emotional connection that is tied up in them (Fear, Guilt, Hope, Sentimentality, FOMO). Having someone unconnected to coach and challenge you on what you actually need and love will help you get rid of way more stuff than you will on your own.
-
Time: It takes a lot of time to properly declutter and reorganise your home, like weeks. In families where both parents are working finding this time is difficult and means giving up time that could be spent on career, family or hobbies. Imagine giving up a week (or even two) of holiday to do this…..uh no thanks ! This means most people will never get round to it.
-
Organisation Skills: We are not all natural organisers. The reality is home organising requires a combination of higher cognitive skills, problem solving, thinking, planning and spatial awareness. There is also the aesthetic aspect of how things are organised. PO’s are skilled in making things look nice aswell as organised. For many the thought of decluttering and organising their home is enough to put them off , PO’s are passionate about organising and love this work.
-
Headspace: In today’s busy world we have so many things on our to do-list, for many women (and men) the daily sight of clutter in their home causes mental clutter, many women report not feeling like they can relax properly when their space is a mess. Removing excess stuff removes the mental clutter and frees up headspace to use for other things.
-
Changing your attitude towards ‘stuff’ for the long term: when you have less stuff and it is only stuff that you like you see more value in it. Once you have been through the process of decluttering and recognise the past behaviours that enabled the build up of clutter you are more likely to question what you allow into your home. This is better for your wallet, the environment and your kids as they develop their own attitudes.
-
Less cleaning and tidying : It is reported that decluttering your home properly can reduce the amount of time spent cleaning and tidying by upwards of 20% (I’ll take that time for me thanks !!). If you have a cleaner and your house is cluttered the likelihood is that it is not being properly cleaned as they either run out of time as they keep moving things or they just clean around the clutter.
-
Knock on impact to how you think about organisation at work: When you have reaped the benefits of a more uncluttered, organised and efficient life at home chances are you’ll start to look elsewhere in your life for opportunities to get rid of clutter.
